Inconel® 600 plate is a nonmagnetic nickel-chromium alloy with properties that include high temperature strength comparable to 18-8 alloys and high resistance to organic and inorganic corrosives. Alloy 600 plate performs well in temperatures ranging from cryogenic up to 2000°F. It exhibits excellent resistance to alkaline solutions and chloride-ion stress cracking due to its high nickel content and high resistance to sulfur compounds due to its chromium content. Inconel® 600 plate is also resistant to steam, steam/air mixtures and carbon dioxide. It has good workability and is weldable.

Inconel 600 can be machined using conventional machining methods which are used for iron-based alloys. Machining operations are performed using commercial coolants. High-speed operations such as grinding, milling or turning, are performed using water-base coolants. Inconel 600 is welded using gas-tungsten arc welding, shielded metal-arc welding, gas metal-arc welding, and submerged-arc welding methods.
