Duplex Steel 2202 Sheet

Stainless Steel Alloy Duplex 2202 or DX2202 is a stainless steel with austenitic-ferritic properties.

Duplex 2202 sheet or DX2202 sheet, is an austenitic-ferritic stainless steel. It offers users general resistance to corrosion that is comparable to Type 304L. Some of the other key characteristics of Duplex 2202 include:

  • Improved mechanical strength
  • Service temperature range of -50 °C to 300°C
  • Stress corrosion resistance that is often double other austenitic stainless steels
  • Can be used in combination with nitric acid

Due to these and other benefits, Duplex 2202 sheet is used in a wide variety of critical industrial application including:

  • Construction applications such as crash barriers and footbridges
  • Oil tanks
  • Automotive structure
  • Desalination
  • Pulp and Paper tanks
  • Juice tanks
  • Drinking water systems

Corrosion Resistance

2202 duplex stainless steel sheet is a cost effective solution for many applications where the 300 series stainless steels are susceptible to chloride stress corrosion cracking. Stress corrosion cracking occurs when stainless steels are subjected to tensile stress, while in contact with solutions containing chlorides. Increasing temperatures also increase the susceptibility of stainless steels to stress corrosion cracking.

The combination of chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen convey the good resistance of 2202 to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion. This resistance is extremely important for services such as marine environments, brackish water, bleaching operations, closed loop water systems and some food processing applications. The high chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen contents of 2202 provide corrosion resistance superior to common stainless steels, such as, 316L and 317L in most environments.

Characteristics

  • High resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking
